Oscar Watch '07: Raping Dakota


Dakota Fanning's dark rape role touted as potential Oscar winner

New York: Dakota Fanning is a bundle of talent at the young age of twelve, and is all set to play the most challenging role of her career, as she deals with intense scenes of rape and child abuse in her upcoming film titled 'Hounddog'.


'Hounddog' is a story of abuse and violence, and would require Fanning to be raped and appear naked or clad just in her underpants in few scenes.

Fanning's mother, Joy, and her Hollywood agent, Cindy Osbrink, said that the movie is a possible Oscar contender for the preteen star.


"It's not just the rape scene - the whole story is challenging Dakota as an actress. And I've never been so proud of her in my life. I've seen the dailies, and in every scene she gets better and better", the New York Daily News quoted the star's agent Osbrink, as saying.

Fanning's carefully choreographed rape scene has already been filmed, but the production that had been halted for a short while due to lack of funds over the controversial subject of child abuse, has successfully started again.

Personally, I think this is WAY too young for a child actress to play a rape victim. Tho, there's not a lot of portrayals for young survivors to find courage in. Still...
