That Explains A LOT: Al Sharpton and Strom Thurmond Related

Dave Chappelle Roots Revisions

Al Sharpton said he wants a DNA test to determine whether he is related to former segregationist Sen. Strom Thurmond through his great-grandfather, a slave owned by an ancestor of the late senator...Professional genealogists, who work for Ancestry.com, found that Sharpton's great-grandfather Coleman Sharpton was a slave pwned owned by Julia Thurmond, whose grandfather was Strom Thurmond's great-great-grandfather. Coleman Sharpton was later freed.

I think it highly likely, highly likely. And totally hilarious, it's like poetic justice...random connections make the world work out in the end. Maybe I'm just still on a HEROES high. (shrug)

*No, Dave Chappelle doesn't have anything to do with this. Or does he? ;)

Congrats Forest, CONGRATS

YES! A favorite actor AND director, Forest Whitaker won an Oscar last night!

HELL YES!

My grandma said: I've never seen so many people of color at the Oscars my ENTIRE LIFE!

She turns 74 tomorrow, and is happy to have a birthday in this better world of today!

One of my favorite moments: being 14 and pissed at the world, got dragged to LA's African Market with my Gram and ran into Forest there. Gram cajoled him into taking a picture, even though he hates them...then I lost the camera.

(Bi the way, the scottish dude James McAvoy in The Last King of Scotland is super hot and it's also got Gillian Anderson of X-Files looking quite tasty!)

Joe Rogan Fights, Loses...Does Anyone Notice? Does Anyone Care But Me?

My agent dropped me because of the Carlos™
Posted by Joe Rogan on Thu, Feb 15th, 2007 06:14pm
This is starting to get hysterical.
As the fearful little animals scamper to a safe, dry spot on the sinking ship of lies, characters are exposed and karma is radiantly beautiful.

My agent from the Gersh agency, who is the same guy that represents Carlos, spoke to me on the phone today. He told me that he was being "put in the middle of this thing, and forced to make a choice." He said that Carlos wanted to get on the phone with me and end this once and for all, and get this... wanted an apology.
If I didn't do this, he wanted the Gersh agency to either drop me, or he would leave them.

I told them that was fucking hilarious, and said that it's been fun working with them. The fact that they would even consider asking me to do something like that meant I was going to leave them anyway, but the sheer stereotypical "hollywood" nature of conversation actually fucking shocked me.
It was like a scene in a movie. Not even a current movie. More like that Kevin Bacon movie "The Big Picture" that was about the evils of Hollywood from the early 90's.

I hung up the phone and laughed out loud. A real, hard, pleasure filled laugh.

Now can you IMAGINE if I was a young, struggling comic and all this shit went down? THAT is the really ugly part of it.
Now you know why people don't speak up about this shit.

Hollywood eats it's young.
At least the Gersh agency does.

What a fascinating, and intriguing life this is turning out to be.

:)

Joe Rogan once checked out my breasts and I actually enjoyed it. His leer is second to none, well maybe

that one time with Nathan Fillion & Nicholas Brendon was better. Then again I think I had dropped some cheese down there, hard to say. Hard to say. If I got the cheese from Buffy's "Jonathan" would it make it ok? No, I guess not.

Police Fans! Hold Your Receipts Tight!

February 18, 2007 -- IT was Sting's brilliant idea to bring The Police back together for their 30th anniversary, sources say, despite interviews he and band members Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers gave suggesting it was a mutual idea.

One music-industry heavyweight tells Page Six: "Sting worked on Stewart and Andy for six months trying to get them to agree to tour. They didn't really want to at first. It's not like they need the money. They're set for life off of the royalties alone.

"But for some reason, Sting was insistent, telling them how much money they all could make," the source said.

To sweeten the deal, Sting "assured his former bandmates they could not only pick the song list for the tour, but that the three would share equally in profits - whereas in the past, Sting always got a higher percentage because he was the frontman.

"They finally agreed," our source said, and the group decided to kick off their reunion tour with an opening performance at the Grammys of "Roxanne."

But Copeland and Summers apparently didn't realize what they had signed on for. "Andy and Stew thought they would just do the old rock version of 'Roxanne,' " our insider said, "but when they showed up for sound check, Sting had created this weird, jazz-blues version of the song, and they kind of freaked out." Sting insisted that his version was better and sang the unexpected rendition of the 1978 hit at the Grammys - to almost everyone's dismay.

"It was hideous," said one music executive. "Lets hope the whole rest of the song sets for the tour aren't like that." - Page Six

Death of Audioslave, Solo Chris Cornell All That Matters To Me

Audioslave singer Chris Cornell has quit the short-lived "supergroup," citing "irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences," he said...

Cornell, 42, who rose to fame with defunct Seattle rock group Soundgarden, will reignite his solo career with the May 1 release of "Carry On," his second solo album.

"Due to irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences, I am permanently leaving the band Audioslave. I wish the other three members nothing but the best in all of their future endeavors," the part-time Paris restaurateur said in a statement.

The Audioslave split was not unexpected. His colleagues, guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk, have reunited with singer Zack de la Rocha to resurrect their former band Rage Against the Machine, which will play its first show in seven years at California's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 29. Rage's plans beyond this show are unknown...

...The Interscope Records release will include "You Know My Name," Cornell's main title song for the latest James Bond film "Casino Royale," as well as a cover of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean." Among the brand new tunes are "No Such Thing" and "Poison Eye," both described in the statement as having a "harder edge," and the "redemptive" song "Your Soul Today."

The statement also described Cornell as "acrimonious," which a publicist said was the intended term. -

Political Deathmatch '08: The Beginning

WORDS THAT BEGIN THE WAR:
Gay Mafia

"Not since the Vietnam War has there been this level of disappointment in the behavior of America throughout the world, and I don't think that another incredibly polarizing figure, no matter how smart she is and no matter how ambitious she is -- and God knows, is there anybody
more ambitious than Hillary Clinton? -- can bring the country together." - David Geffen

This has purty much turned moi off Hilary for good. Geffen's a lil punk, love the gay godfatha even so...Hilary jumped to the fight, Obama slammed back, and how this all plays out should be a pretty good indicator of who's gonna get the nomination imho. it also could be a good indicator of the infighting that will be front page news allowing the pubs to keep the presidency, thoughts?

yes, the source is nytimes via perezhilton, i just can't get enough of bald britney going craaazy on the papz with her green umbrella.

personal dream? hilary gets dem nom, brownback gets republican and obama runs as an independent. part of me thinks he has a better chance get the vote from those who don't usually this way. but leaving the powerful DNC behind and not being associated with the DCCC could hurt. but this way all the money hilary has raised can still go towards congressional candidates and obama has a shot at president and changing the 2 party system.

that said, i'll vote against the republicans no matter what and i guess that's all that counts.

Morrissey sees Ghosts, not surprised. Am surprised he cried over loss of cat, wait, nope..Not surprised.

Did you ever see a ghost?

Ahh... well, I did. It was in England. But yes, I did once.

Can you tell me about it?

Yes! It was January 1989, and it was a very bitter winter. I went with three friends onto Saddleworth Moor in the north of England, which is the most barren, desolate, desperate place . . . a place of many, many murders throughout British history — many bodies were dumped [there] because it was so hostile. [In the mid-’60s, several Manchester schoolchildren were brutally murdered and dumped on Saddleworth Moor in a crime known as the Moors Murders. The killings left a deep scar upon the community. In fact, the first song Morrissey co-wrote with Johnny Marr, “Suffer Little Children,” was about these murders.]

There’s nothing for miles, and it’s very easy to lose your way. We had driven through darkness even though it was only 6 p.m. — you can only see as far as your headlights. At one point, we tried to step outside the car and the wind was so ferocious, a bitter chill of winter. You can’t see lights for miles, because there’s nothing there, just peat and heather. Very, very unfriendly terrain.

And suddenly, as we turned onto a side road, from the side of the road, from the heather, somebody pleaded to the car [throws arms wide, leaning forward, blue eyes wide, but blank — desperate, almost like a suffering saint].

It was a boy of maybe 18 years, and he was totally gray, and he had long hair in a sort of 1970s style, one of those strange feather cuts, and he wore a very small anorak and nothing else; he was completely naked. He just emerged from the heather and pleaded to the lights, and we drove past because we all instinctively knew that this was a spirit.

So, we went to the nearest phone box in the nearest village, and we called the police, and we said, “We have just driven down the Wessenden Road on Saddleworth Moor, and somebody has emerged from the side of the road and pleaded to the car.” The police said, “Keep an open mind [mimes hanging up a phone].” So, the next day we drove back to the spot where we had seen the figure, and in daylight we could see that there wasn’t a building, not a hut...

Oh my god.

...Nothing for 100 miles. So, who was this person? Was it somebody trying to ambush the car, so therefore we’d stop to help and then suddenly a gang would emerge and take everything from us? Or was it somebody who was being chased? Or was it somebody — was it the specter of somebody who had been dumped on the moors, on Saddleworth Moor, many years ago? What would you have done?

I don’t know what I would have done.

Yes, but it’s a split second. You have to know. Because it had a history of being a place where so many bodies have been dumped and buried, and it’s not really a kind of place you hang around. This person is not human, and it was very, very frightening, and we were all very intelligent beings, and we simply all together went, Ahhhhgh! Go go go! And because his skin, his body, his face, his hair and his small jacket were all gray, it wasn’t just that he seemed visually like an ordinary person, he didn’t. He seemed like something from beyond.

Read the entire excellent LA WEEKLY interview...The world is fairly lucky to have this man around still. And the music is still good, the music is still good.

Chewbacca, Prisoner.

LAPD officers arrested "Star Wars" street performer Frederick Evan Young, 44, of Los Angeles in his furry brown wookiee costume Thursday on a charge of misdemeanor battery for allegedly head-butting a tour guide who complained about Young's treatment of two visitors from Japan.

The incident — witnessed by Superman and other impersonators — is the latest clash outside the landmark cinema between visitors and performers dressed as movie and cartoon characters. They collect tips from tourists who pose for pictures and watch them perform in front of the theater, where generations of stars have placed their footprints in concrete.

A police source said that a Superman performer witnessed the altercation and was interviewed by police. Other street performers said that before police arrived Superman called producers from ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Show," which is taped across the boulevard from the theater, and a cameraman videotaped Young being led off by officers.

(thanks to essentialsaltes)

Seriously tho, the street performers have been out of control for awhile now. Sure, I'm also a bit frightened by the number of "fondle me,baby" elmos but still...
