Ashley Judd credits yoga for helping her conquer depression

The Kiss the Girls actress was diagnosed bipolar a decade ago and found her interest in yoga and all that comes with it was more helpful to her than pills she was prescribed.

She said: "My mat is a safe place. I'll go into Child's pose or I'll simply sit on it and cry. It's my rock.

"I haven't been depressed in a while, but it's something I know how to look for in my life. Yoga has made a big difference there. because when I feel that slippery slope, instead of just monitoring it and being fearful, now I give thanks for my struggles.

"I try to remember that true happiness is not dependant on circumstances and conditions.

"That said, there might be a time in my life when medication is appropriate for me again. There are periods when your brain chemistry is off-kilter enough that it doesn't matter what you do until you get that synaptic shit worked out."
