"We didn't make [Brokeback Mountain] for any kind of political movement. We never expected to change people's minds. But if it does affect people's hearts, if perceptions can get altered, that's a good thing." - Heath Ledger
It's not often I scream in the midday, but I did when I went casually surfed to people.com to see what Beautiful Brits was up to. And there it was, Heath Ledger. And I scream, a lil scream and then protestations and oh no's and please no, god no. And then ah man that TOTALLY sucks. And then there's this outpouring of grief for an actor who connected to the many. So it with great regret that I post this photo. And a an obligatory repost of Brokeback Blog is below.

This is why the movie is striking a chord with the non-gay community. Ennis resonates because he reminds us of some part of us. Life has such possibilities, and from lack of courage or weariness or outright fear we allow it to shrink us into this small, sad space doing this small, sad thing. Don't look at my face because you might see who I am. The film does what it's supposed to do. It's specific but it's universal.
